Location: Location: Guizhou Province, Tongren City, Yanhe County 贵州省 铜仁市 沿河县
The end of the trip, Gongtan Ancient Town 龚滩古镇, belongs to Youyang County in Chongqing 重庆市 酉阳县 (the opposite side of the river belongs to Guizhou).
Wu River (Wujiang or Wu Jiang) is a Yangtze River tributary. Wu River Gallery 乌江画廊(or 乌江百里画廊) is the name of the the most beautiful part of the river, and Lizhi Gorge is the highlight.
High above the gorge is a scenic area called Bawang Valley 霸王谷, only accessible by car from Yanhe, see this post.
Wu River and Apeng River (Apeng Jiang) 阿蓬江 meet close to Gongtan Ancient Town, and many Apeng River sightseeing boats leave from Gongtan (see this post).
During the tourist season sightseeing boats also run between Gongtan and Pengshui County 彭水苗族土家族自治县.
We made our trip from Yanhe to Gongtan in mid-October 2019.
The official website (in Chinese) www.wujianglizhixia.com/ has been down for some time, not sure if it’s permanently or temporarily.
